British Economic Growth Slows in Q3
Analysts had anticipated a 0.2% increase for the July-September period. This modest growth followed a 0.3% rise in the prior quarter.
On a yearly basis, gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 1.1% in the third quarter, also below expectations, reported the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The ONS noted that the expansion was underpinned by a 0.2% rise in services output and a 0.1% increase in construction, while the production sector experienced a 0.5% decline.
In September alone, GDP fell by 0.1% compared with the previous month but remained 1.1% higher than a year earlier.
“Most notably, production output fell by 2.0% in September 2025, mainly because of a 28.6% decline in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, which detracted 0.17 percentage points from monthly GDP,” the ONS stated.
