Queen Mathilde Arrives in Istanbul to Lead Major Economic Mission

(MENAFN) Belgium’s Queen Mathilde has arrived in Istanbul to head a high-level economic delegation aimed at expanding trade and investment cooperation between Belgium and Türkiye, according to reports.

The delegation’s aircraft landed at Istanbul Airport on Sunday at around noon local time, where the Queen and accompanying officials were received by Türkiye’s Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş along with other representatives.

The Belgian delegation includes several senior political figures, among them Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot, Defense Minister Theo Francken (who also oversees foreign trade), Brussels-Capital Region Minister-President Boris Dilliès, Flemish Region Minister-President Matthias Diependaele, and Walloon Region Vice-President Pierre-Yves Jeholet.

In addition, the visit is accompanied by a large private-sector component, with 428 business representatives taking part in the mission.

The trip is intended to reinforce already growing economic relations between the two countries, with both sides reportedly aiming to broaden cooperation across multiple sectors and deepen commercial engagement.

Discussions and engagements during the mission are expected to focus on investment opportunities in areas such as energy, defense, aviation, logistics, healthcare and life sciences, banking, as well as technology and digital industries.

The program also includes company visits, bilateral meetings, and structured business-to-business networking sessions between Turkish and Belgian firms.

A Türkiye–Belgium Economic Forum is scheduled as part of the visit, alongside anticipated agreements and memoranda in sectors including defense, aviation, and social security. Additional arrangements between private sector actors are also expected.

The visit also highlights the role of the Turkish community in Belgium, which is described as an important part of Belgian society, contributing to both its economic activity and broader social fabric.
