China Calls for Stability in US Economic Ties Ahead of Trump Visit

(MENAFN) China has called on the United States to provide “greater stability” in bilateral economic relations and in the wider global economy ahead of US President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to China.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday that economic and trade relations between the two countries are “mutually beneficial in nature,” according to remarks delivered at a press briefing in Beijing.

He added that both sides should work together to implement key understandings reached between their leaders and strengthen stability in China–US economic cooperation as well as the global economy.

The comments come as senior trade negotiators from both countries prepare for economic consultations scheduled to take place in South Korea on Wednesday, following earlier discussions held in Paris in March.

Trump is expected to begin a three-day visit to China on Wednesday, during which a range of major issues—including tariffs, trade imbalances, supply chain security, artificial intelligence, and rare earth materials—are expected to be discussed.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to host Trump in Beijing on Thursday. The visit would mark the first time in nine years that a sitting US president has traveled to China.
