Comeryx Opens for Business with Capacity from A+ Rated Carrier

MGA launches a combined general liability and contractors pollution liability program paired with AI-driven desk underwriting for small artisan contractors.

The underlying risk was never the problem. The cost to underwrite it was.”
— Dax Craig, CEO Comeryx

DENVER, CO, UNITED STATES, October 21, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Comeryx, an AI-native managing general agent built to underwrite small business artisan contractors with speed and accuracy, today announced the launch of its technology platform. A carrier with an A.M. Best rating of A+ (Superior) and a financial size category of XV is providing capacity for its combined general liability and contractors pollution liability program for small business artisan contractors. Comeryx writes on a non-admitted basis and is appointing Excess & Surplus wholesale brokers now and will begin binding coverage this fall.

Comeryx engineered a no touch end-to-end policy processing system that gives wholesale brokers a profitable market for accounts that have been hard to place. Placing small artisan contractor business has meant complexity, delay, and no assurance of a quote. Comeryx removed that friction across the process, from submission through issuance.

The capacity agreement gives Comeryx access to one of the sector's most established balance sheets. For wholesale brokers and the retail agents they serve, it means the coverage sits on paper carrying the highest financial size category A.M. Best assigns, backed by a capacity provider with the strength to provide policyholders peace of mind future claims will be paid. For Comeryx, it establishes a capacity partnership to build upon for many years in the future.

Comeryx writes commercial general liability and contractors pollution liability combined on a single policy, and contractors pollution liability as a standalone product. General liability is written on standard ISO coverage forms. Comeryx built the products to provide substantive coverage with a fast quoting process.

Small artisan contractors have been underserved for a structural reason. Underwriting one account properly costs more than the premium justifies, so the market answered with higher minimums, longer supplemental applications, thinner coverage, or declining to quote at all. According to Comeryx underwriting analysis, roughly 50% of submissions in this segment never receive a response.

The consequence falls on the contractor. Increasingly, construction sites require pollution coverage in their subcontractor agreements, and standard general liability policies usually exclude it. A contractor who cannot secure proper pollution coverage does not win the job. Comeryx built its insurance products to close that gap.

“The underlying risk was never the problem. The cost to underwrite it was,” said Dax Craig, Co-Founder and CEO of Comeryx. “We built our technology platform so that a $3,000 account receives the same underwriting discipline as a $30,000 account that is processed in minutes, not days or weeks. The economics of serving small contractor accounts move from negative to positive for wholesale brokers and retail agents."

"What drew us to Comeryx was Dax's track record in building tech-enabled small business insurance companies, paired with what AI-native infrastructure now makes possible," said Oleg Illichev, Founder Managing Partner at Altai Ventures. "Together, they finally solve the paradox of the small artisan contractor account: hard enough to underwrite properly that it demands real analytical work, yet too small in premium to pay for that work under a manual process. Comeryx is what becomes possible when the architecture is built for that problem from the start."

The process is straightforward for wholesale brokers. Submissions arrive via email, through the Comeryx broker portal, or via a direct API connection. The Comeryx platform ingests the submission, applies underwriting and pricing logic, and returns a quote that is bindable as issued. It removes the back-and-forth friction typically present in other carrier and MGA processes. Once bound, the policy is delivered immediately.

Comeryx was founded by an experienced team. Dax Craig previously co-founded Pie Insurance and Valen Analytics. Melissa Bernard has 3 decades in specialty environmental and casualty underwriting, most recently as Environmental Team Lead at CapSpecialty. Elad Kolet previously led Facebook's North America Business Engineering division. Matt Frazier served as Chief Analytics Officer at Pie Insurance and Chief Scoring Officer at Valen Analytics.
